How Orchard ADU Builders Was Born in La Habra

We started this company in 2013, but the real beginning happened a few months earlier, in a La Habra backyard off Euclid Street. We’d been asked to look at an accessory dwelling unit that another builder had walked away from midway through framing. The homeowner had paid for the full job up front. The concrete pad was poured wrong, the wall studs were spaced unevenly, and the permit had lapsed weeks before anyone told her. She stood there holding a binder of paperwork and asking us, quietly, whether she’d made a mistake trying to build a home for her mother on her own property.

That question sat with us. We finished the framing, fixed what we could, and helped her sort out the permit mess with the city. But what stuck was how the industry had failed her. She wasn’t a developer or an investor. She was a daughter trying to keep her aging mother close, and she’d been treated like a line item. We promised ourselves then that if we ever built a company, it would exist for exactly that person. When we founded Orchard ADU Builders in La Habra later that year, we wrote one rule on the shop wall: every client is someone’s neighbor before they’re someone’s contract.

Our Founder’s Personal Connection to the ADU Trade

The first time our founder walked onto a framing site, it was summer in Southern California, and the air smelled like cut pine and hot concrete. He wasn’t the boss. He was the person carrying lumber and cleaning up scrap, watching the way a well-built wall went from a chalk line on a slab to something you could lean against. It looked like magic to him, but the kind of magic that came from patience and repetition and caring about millimeter-level details nobody would ever see once the drywall went up.

That’s the part of this trade that never left him. An ADU is a small home, often built in a side yard or over a garage, squeezed into a footprint most contractors consider an afterthought. But inside those few hundred square feet, someone’s parent will make coffee every morning. Someone’s adult child will finally afford to live in the city where they grew up. Someone will rent it out and keep a house they otherwise couldn’t afford. The work matters because the rooms matter, and the rooms matter because of who lives in them. That’s what gets him out of bed at 7:00 AM on a Monday in La Habra. Not the framing itself, though he still loves the smell of the lumber. It’s knowing that a year from now, a family will be sitting at a dinner table in a space we helped create.

He’s spent more than a decade doing this work across Orange County, and if he weren’t building ADUs, he’d probably still be building something. He’s the kind of person who needs to make things with his hands. But he’d be making furniture, or fixing up an old truck, or helping a friend pour a patio. The building never leaves you. What he’s learned over the years is that the difference between a good builder and a great one isn’t technical skill alone. It’s the willingness to treat someone’s backyard like it’s your own family’s backyard, and to lose sleep over the details until they’re right.

Meet Our Team – The Person Behind Every Job

Our founder is the owner and the face of Orchard ADU Builders. He’s worked in residential construction and ADU-specific building for more than a decade, with hands-on experience in every phase of a project from foundation to finish. He’s not a franchise technician following a corporate playbook. He’s a builder who has framed walls in Brea heat, pulled permits in Fullerton, and worked with inspectors in Buena Park, Placentia, and Anaheim. He knows which questions to ask before the first shovel hits the ground, and he asks them because he’s been the person who had to fix the job when nobody asked.

Outside of work, he’s a believer in doing things once and doing them right, whether that’s a load-bearing header or a backyard vegetable garden he’s slowly learning to keep alive. It’s not a metaphor. It’s just who he is. His commitment to every customer is simple: show up when he says he will, do what he said he’d do, and stand behind the finished structure as if his own name were stamped on the front door. Because in a real sense, it is.

Our Promise to La Habra Homeowners

We promise honest pricing, and we mean something specific by that. Before we start any ADU project, you get a written, line-item estimate. Not a ballpark figure delivered verbally over the phone. Not a low quote that balloons once the contract is signed. We price the job up front, explain what each line item covers, and if something changes during the build, we talk about it before we do the work. Change orders happen in construction. Surprise invoices shouldn’t.

We promise quality materials and workmanship. We don’t cut corners on subflooring or framing hardware or waterproofing, because those are the parts you’ll never see but will absolutely feel if they fail. We use materials from manufacturers like James Hardie for siding when the project calls for it, and we work with prefabrication partners like Abodu and Plant Prefab when a factory-built option is the right fit for the site. And we stand behind every structure we complete. If something isn’t right, we come back. That’s not a marketing line. It’s how we keep working in a community where word travels fast.

Our Credentials

Orchard ADU Builders is a state-licensed contractor operating legally in California. Every professional working under our name is required to hold the license and insurance their trade demands. Our work is insured and bonded, which means you’re protected if something goes wrong on the job site.

  • State-licensed: We meet California’s licensing requirements for residential construction.
  • Insured & bonded: Coverage is in place to protect homeowners during the build.
  • Years of local experience: We’ve been building ADUs in La Habra and neighboring Orange County cities for more than a decade.
  • Strong local reputation: Our business has grown through referrals from homeowners, neighbors, and city permit offices who know our work.

Here’s why those credentials matter when you’re hiring someone to build on your property. A license means the contractor has met the state’s baseline requirements and is accountable to regulators. Insurance and bonding protect you financially if a worker is injured or something goes wrong. Years of local experience mean we’ve navigated La Habra’s planning department, we know what inspectors in this city look for, and we’ve solved the problems that only come up in Southern California’s specific climate and soil conditions. A strong local reputation means we have a track record you can actually verify by asking around.

Rooted in La Habra

La Habra is home. We know the neighborhoods off Whittier Boulevard, the older lots near La Habra Boulevard where setbacks get tricky, and the hillside properties where drainage matters more than most people realize. We’ve worked with homeowners in the Coyote Hills area, near La Habra High School, and in the neighborhoods that border Brea and Fullerton. We know this city’s permit office staff by their first names, and we know which inspectors are sticklers for shear-wall details. That local knowledge isn’t a marketing point. It’s the difference between a smooth build and a stalled one, and our customers feel that difference every week we’re on their property. Call (844) 386-2399 to schedule your free estimate. We’d love to walk your backyard with you and talk about what’s possible.
